Replacing the immensely popular Gran Turismo (GTS) helmet, the Vespa Aviator has big boots to fill – but we’re not concerned about that one bit. Vespa have built on the success of the GTS, and with the Aviator 1 and Aviator 2 (see below for their differences), you have two really strong designs to choose from.

Vespa have stayed true to their roots with the Aviator.vespa-aviator-1-montebianco-1The rich colour contrast of the ABS shell and the eco-leather trim makes the Aviator stand out, and just so there’s no doubt about this helmet being “Vespa”, there is a large engraving of the iconic Vespa logo to the rear of the helmet.

Usability is good, too. The cheek pads are removable, the visor and visor screws replaceable, and with a micro-metric fastener, it really is “easy on, easy off” with the Aviator.

You won’t be stuck for choosing a suitable colour, either. As we’ve come to expect from Vespa, there is a helmet to suit every scooter, with no fewer than six colours in the Aviator 1 and three colours in the Aviator 2.

vespa-classic-helmet-rearWhat’s the difference between the Vespa Aviator 1 and Aviator 2?

The difference between the Aviator 1 and Aviator 2 is otherwise purely aesthetic. The Aviator 1 helmet has a thinner eco-leather trim which goes around the edge and base of the helmet, whereas the Aviator 2 has a larger eco-leather trim which slopes upwards around the back of the helmet (see below right pictures).

vespa-aviator-steel-2The visors are also slightly different: the Aviator 2 has a nose cut-away, whereas the Aviator 1 has a straight finish (except on the more expensive Steel colour, which is similar to the Aviator 2). The visors are not interchangeable, but you can get replacement clear and smoke visors for both the Aviator 1 and 2, as well as replacement visor screws and cheek pads. Both the Aviator 1 and Aviator 2 helmets have the engraved Vespa logo to the rear.

So, with all the good bits of the original Vespa GTS helmet, plus a few new features for good measure, the Vespa Aviator helmet looks set to be very popular with Vespa fans throughout the UK and Europe.
