MotoGP is always exciting, but this year’s championship and the surrounding hype has taken off and is now spinning in orbit.
For a start, we had contract and team fueds, followed by team line up changes, then Rossi and Lorenzo set new records for Yamaha and, more recently, a shock wildcard entry in Valencia for the Texan whirlwind Ben Spies, who will be joining Colin Edwards on the Yamaha Tech 3 MotoGP team next season.
Quite a season, so far!
With championship leader Valentino Rossi just 18 points ahead of Jorge Lorenzo after a disappointing run for the Italian at Estoril, it’s looking like the final three races are set to be full of suspense.
Lorenzo knows he has his work cut out if he wants to catch his team mate, and has said he will need to take first place in the remaining races in order to be sure in gain the championship. Australian Casey Stoner is set to come into his element when the championship moves to Phillip Island this weekend. The Aussie has won the Phillip Island leg for the last 2 years, so he could throw a spanner in Lorenzo’s works.
More excitement will come when Ben Spies races as a wildcard entry in the Valencia leg, where all eyes will be on him and his performance against the best riders in the world.
