A first for the HEL Performance British Championship 2015 – A double race win for our local Taz Taylor!

The HEL Performance British Championship was a roaring success for our Mansfield local Taz Taylor this weekend as he stormed through both races at Knockhill to reach first place, twice! An unprecedented win for this season’s BSB, Taz took the first double trophy whammy of the season…
The gloomy Saturday weather seemed to work in Taz’s favour when it came to starting positions as Taz set the fastest lap in the Friday qualifying session at Knockhill, the times of which were used in both races that weekend. This was a follow on from his last race where he also set a lap record!
The first sixteen-lap race saw Taz dominate, at one point storming ahead of his on-track rival Scott Deroue, pacing him by an impressive 3.9 seconds. With the race packing 16 laps – what a time to be proud of!
The riders had no preparation time for setting themselves up for the soggy conditions of the second race when they all set off on a wet track. Taz explains “in the second race I didn’t know what was going to happen as I’ve never ridden a Moto3 bike round here in the wet and we had no wet practice so it was an open playing field.” Maybe it was beginner’s bravery but the damp was no match for Taz as he stormed to the front of the pack for the first race, constantly pushed by Ed Rendell, the current reigning British Champion. Taz held the lead but Ed and Scott Deroue weren’t up for losing and towards the final few laps Taz caught sight of the scoreboard, Deroue was catching up and overtook him for the final few laps. “I followed Scott for a couple of laps into the hairpin and knew that is where I would have to try and make the pass.” His gritty determination paid off as he rode ahead to claim the win.
As always Taz is grateful for the behind-the-bike support he’s continually given, “I just want to thank everyone again for their help and support and if anyone would like to help my bid of racing at the British MotoGP at Silverstone then please get in touch.”

These smart photos of Taz were snapped by professional photographer Ian Hopgood.
