MotoGP heads down under for the next leg of the premier motorcycle racing championship at Phillip Island this weekend.
Phillip Island is the fastest circuit on the MotoGP calendar, and always offers a combination of picturesque ocean scenery, long fast bends and a start/finish straight upon which riders can really unleash the power of their race-tuned GP machines.
Back in his home country, Aussie rider Chris Vermeulen is all set for the rush of racing in front of his friends, family and fellow nationals. Having taken a podium finish for Suzuki in 2006 at the track, he said:
That long straight will be hard work, but we’ll certainly be trying as hard as we can to stay in the slipstream. I really love racing at Phillip Island and hopefully we’ll have a good time there!
Loris Capirossi is always one to watch at the Phillip Island circuit, with an enviable track record consisting of 6 podium finishes and five front row starts.
From Phillip Island, its over the water a little to Sepang, Malaysia, before the much anticipated final leg in Valencia which will see wildcard rookie Ben Spies spread his wings in his first MotoGP ride.
