It’s a good question. Let me explain why R&G crash protectors are in a league of their own.
You are what you eat. You get what you pay for. Sayings that we’d rather not take heed of, but ignore them at your peril. Buy cheap crash protectors and you better hope you keep the bike upright.
Harsh words, but true. Cheaper brands tend to be of a lesser design, with the crash bungs fixed to totally unsuitable points on the bike. These are often points that cannot take weight, with weak mounted brackets that could fold on impact. All these features add up to a messy repair and many £££s.
R & G protectors, on the other hand, cost that little bit more at the outset, but are likely to lessen the damage your bike will sustain during a crash. They are affixed by heat treated bolts to the frame of the bike – the strongest part of the bike, and the most able to absorb impact.
Admittedly, this sometimes means a small fairing modification needs to be made, but how can it not be worth it?
