The governing body of motorsport, the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) has spoken out about the status of MotoGP in the current economic crisis.
President of the FIM, Vito Ippolito, is confident that the cost-cutting measures put into place earlier this season have got the championship through some tough times, and expects that the grid will begin filling again by 2011.
The motorcycle sport industry felt the financial crisis at the beginning of the year, when Kawasaki withdrew from the MotoGP championship. They were closely followed by the Hernando Ducati team, and the Hayate team is expected to cease competing at the end of the season.
The changes the FIM imposed were controversial, including limiting practice and testing mileage, and though they seem to have done the job, time will tell where the future of the GP is heading.
