Lorenzo Storms Home At Estoril

Jorge Lorenzo Wins At Estoril

Jorge Lorenzo tucked an easy win under his belt yesterday at the Estoril leg of the MotoGP championship.

The 22 year old Spaniard, dressed as an astronaut to commemorate the anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s landing on the moon, was jokingly said to be ‘over the moon’ himself.

After taking pole position in qualifying, Lorenzo officially broke Yamaha‘s record number of 10 pole starts in a season. The effort was of course not all his own, as teammate Valentino racked up 6 of the pole placings, but together the racers have taken a 11 poles this season and broken a record which has stood over 20 years.

Lorenzo didn’t have the best of starts and found himself behind Pedrosa going into the first lap. However, he didn’t sit there too long and by lap 2 Lorenzo was ahead and pulling away. By the end of the race, he had amassed a 6 second lead on his closest competitor, the Australian Casey Stoner.

Lorenzo’s win topped of the championship for Yamaha too, who have officially taken the Constructors Championship.
