Is the world just out to get motorcyclists or what?
In the latest anti-bike chaos, proposals have been put forward by government advisors that motorcyclists should be ‘automatically blamed’ for accidents invloving bicyclists.
The group Cycling England – funded by the Department of Transport – has suggested that liability in accidents should lay with motorcyclists or car drivers if they have an accident involving a cyclist, or on a more broad spectrum, the liability should lay with the highest-powered vehicle.
Similar laws are already in place in several other European countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany, though upon enquiry the Department of Transport has denied that they are considering the proposal.
Just as well too, as government records reveal that in accidents involving motorcyclists and bicyclists, the cyclist is likely to be up to twice as likely to have caused the accident – usually by not looking for motorcyclists.
