A new breed of motorcycle clothing was released last year and it has exceeded all expections. It was originally thought of as ‘a load of hot air’, but in fact the concept of air bag jackets has been a success.
The most rated airbag jackets come from the Hit-Air Airbag Jacket Range, which boasts a wealth of 11 alternative designs all encorporating the shock-buffering airbag structure.
Inflating in just half a second, the airbag is inflated by a small cord which attaches from the jacket to the bike. If this cord is pulled, i.e if the rider falls from the bike, the CO2 gas released from the internal gas cartridge inflates the urethane airbag instantly. The inflated air bag is then able to protect your neck, back, chest, sides and hips. All this from a gas cartridge than is only 60cc or less.
They’re not ugly either. Agreed, they’re not available in the vast array of colours you would expect from a standard riding jacket, but the designs themselves are stylish and fit well. The heavier duty models are also waterproof, making them especially suitable for commuters or winter riders.
A swift word of advice though. Always disconnect your connection cord before you dismount your bike, otherwise you might get a little suprise!
