Superstock 600: Taz Taylor’s First Podium Win!

Taz Taylor Podium Brands Hatch GPTaz Taylor‘s raced well and fought hard as he always has but hasn’t yet managed a podium in the Superstock 600. Until Brands Hatch GP. Maybe it was the bigger challenge of this tougher track? Or could it be the motivation inspired by a generous donation from KCS Crane and Transport Hire?

Focusing on the latter, Taz came close to leaving the season altogether. His race funds were almost depleted after Thruxton. Luckily his sponsor KCS Crane and Transport hire came through. They were able to raise enough to see him through the final six races.

When it came to the weekend Taz’s enthusiasm was evident from the start. He began qualifying with a lap time of 1:31.685 and 25 minutes later he’d reduced this down to 1:30.999. In qualifying round two, it came down even lower to 1:30.492. The following day, race-day, Taz revved up from fifth in the grid. It didn’t take him long to advance to the front. Taz and Weaving swapped between first and second a few times. By three quarters through Weaving had a one second advance on Taylor, Taylor the same on Wigley. During the penultimate lap, as spectators were biting their nails to the finish, a rider fell. The red flag halted the race and the result stood. Taz Taylor placed second – well done!

How did Taz feel post-race?

An exciting Taz Taylor podium win, he reflected on the experience, “I made a great start and had a great battle with Weaving early on. In the end I couldn’t quite keep his pace so concentrated on making sure I finished second. I can’t thank Colin and Nicky of KCS Crane and Transport Hire enough. They have always been generous but what they have done this time is just incredible. My whole family are so grateful. Without them I wouldn’t have been racing and today I got my first podium in the Superstock 600 class. Thanks also to all my other sponsors who have also helped me this year and of course to Craig Fitzpatrick and the team for a great bike.”

When will Taz next take to the Superstock 600 tracks?

This local superstar rider has a week to go until the eagerly anticipated Cadwell Park showdown. The bank holiday weekend races won’t be ones too miss, check back here the week after for our regular round-up of Taz’s result and the BSB.

A big thank you to Jon Jessop Photography for marking the occasion with Taz’s ear-to-ear grin
