Local racing superstar Taz Taylor started off his 2009 season in style this weekend, qualifying for 3rd place on the grid and crossing the line in first place in all three of his races. Fresh from a round of successful testing in Spain where he smoked the competition, 11 year old Taz left the competition in his wake as he tore around the track and took the lead in the championship rankings.
But it was not handed to him on a plate – far from it!
In race one, Taz set the pace and was leading the way off the line. However, 5 laps into the race and travelling at around 60mph on the track’s fastest bend, Taz and another rider collided. Taz parted company with his bike and continued sliding for approximately 100 yards before he came to a standstill. He’s a tough young guy though, so he climbed back on and determinedly rode back out onto the track. Battling to regain his rightful position at the front of the pack, Taz was stopped in his tracks when another rider fell off and a red flag was called. In a fortunate turn of events for Taz, the re-starting of the race allowed him to blizt the competition off the line and win the race after all.
The second and third races followed suit, with Taz leading from start to finish. There really is no stopping this speed demon! Returning home with 3 victories, a trophy and 75 championship points under his belt,Taz looks set to have a cracking season.
He is aiming to particpiate this weekend in the MMRA FAB Racing Championships at Llandown in Wales. Watch this space!
