BSB 2016: Two JG Speedfit Kawasaki podiums and Shakey a winner.

Is Shakey heading back to the top spot or will the two JG Speedfit Kawasaki riders continue to surprise us?

Brands Hatch Race One BSB 2016 JG Speedfit Kawasaki Winners

Byrne must have heeded the slogan from his team Ducati at the weekend, ‘be wiser,’ when he claimed the title of race two at this weekend’s Brand Hatch battle. He also kept the championship interesting by becoming the fifth different rider, to win a BSB race this season. JG Speedfit Kawasaki secured two top spots and in six races, five racers have claimed the top podium spot – everything is still to race for.

How did race one go down?

Shakey Byrne wasn’t looking so strong as he dropped from the front, way back to 15th while other table leaders Ellison and Mossey fronted the pack. Suzuki rider Bridewell held fourth in the first three laps, moving forward in the fourth to overtake Cooper at Paddock Hill Bend – though Cooper wasn’t accepting defeat and swiftly reclaimed his position.

There were a few crash-outs during the race. Danny Buchan suffered a huge high-side in lap four as he exited Clearways. Into the later laps the race was halted when three other riders crashed out together at Druids; Jenny Tinmouth, James Rispoli and Vittorio Iannuzzo. The Nissan GT-R Safety Car was deployed and the front four riders were halted in the Brands Hatch track.

Around lap 18 Bridewell and Mossey almost touched mid-corner as Tommy pulled forward ahead of the Quattro Plant Teccare Kawasaki rider. Then as the riders entered the final lap Mossey overtook Bridewell before Ellison, sliding his JG Speedfit Kawasaki into first place.

Haslam managed to keep the standard high for JG Speedfit Kawasaki by finishing in second for the team’s first double top space win this season. Though arguably the third place win for Suzuki was even more important – this being their first podium win since 2014 ahead of Cooper and Mossey – well done Suzuki!

Any more surprises from the second showdown?

The two JG Speedfit Kawasaki winners raced ahead at the front while Shakey Byrne was at the latter end of the top ten in eighth. Shane Shakey Byrne Wins Race Two at Brands Hatch After Ellison missed out on a podium position in race one he was keen to place himself up there in this one. He made a move on Mossey during the fourth lap and overtook the JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider. A shortlived move as Ellison moved ahead again, before Mossey shortly came back.

The old switcheroo was in full swing. Ellison managed to grab the lead once again as the Nissan GT-R Safety Car was sadly needed once again for Laverty’s bike which was heavily smoking. Ellison’s fight was then brought to a close as technical problems saw him out of the race altogether.

Unconsidered a contender for most of the race Shakey was riding at the back, then as the end approached he became the fastest rider on the track. He made a move on Mossey at Clearways with nine laps left, then Haslam. He continued this speed mission with Cooper remaining as the final rider to tackle. A lap later and he’d done it – winning the race and spreading joy to all of his Be Wiser Ducati team. The remainder of the top five spots were taken up by four other manufacturers – happy wins for many!
