How To Change A Gas Canister In Your Hit Air Airbag Jacket

If you’ve been unlucky enough to take a tumble from your motorcycle, hopefully your Hit Air did the job.

Providing the airbag and jacket (and yourself!) aren’t damaged beyond use and still function well, then you can just deflate your jacket, replace the canister and head out on the road again. Here’s how to do it:

STEP 1: Remove the old gas canister

Some jackets have a plastic canister cover on the upper end of the key box. If yours has, use the 3mm allen key to remove it.

This frees up the gas cartridge. Unscrew it counter clockwise.

STEP 2: Deflate the airbag

To remove all the excess air from the airbag, spread your jacket out on a flat, smooth surface. On each airbag cushion, press down firmly with your hands, knees and legs.

To avoid damaging the make up of the airbag, do not roll up or fold your Hit Air.

Be patient! This has to be done correctly, as the jacket cannot be re-assembled with gas remaining in the air pockets.

STEP 3: Arrange the key box

Insert the 6mm setting bolt (supplied) into the hole at the base of the key box and tighten by hand.

Tighten slowly further using the 5mm alan key (supplied) until the hole for the key ball with a ring in the aluminium cylinder is in the centre of the key box hole.

STEP 4: Insert the key ball

Now that the key box is aligned, insert the key ball with a ring into the hole. Pull the wire from the key ball downwards and lower the red sliding cover over the hole.

If the ring stops the cover sliding down, tighten or loosen the setting bolt and/or press the ring around the key ball until it fits in the hole and the slide can move downwards.

STEP 5: Activate the mechanism

Loosen and remove the setting bolt with the 5mm alan key.

You must remove the setting bolt from the key box otherwise the jacket will not inflate.

STEP 6: Replace the canister

Lift the red slide cover into the ‘up’ unlocked position.

Screw a new gas cartridge fully into the bottom until it cannot go any further.

Replace the plastic cartridge cover by using the 3mm alan key (if your jacket had one originally).
