Well Round 3 of Moto GP in Jerez , Spain certainly had all the fire and passion one would expect from a Spanish meet – even more so with an all Spanish front row who certainly did not want to disappoint their home crowd one bit!
Although Lorenzo made a flying start, you really cannot keep the Honda boys down can you and Pedrosa easily passed him on lap five to then take what turned out to be an easy and comfortable victory for him, and more importantly his first win of the 2013 season. But with Pedrosa away, it was down to Lorenzo and Marquez to literally battle it out for second place – and battle it out they did!
Marquez’s aggressive and some-what daring riding style shone through (as we have seen many times before over the years) and he finally managed to make a pass stick on the final corner whilst barging Lorenzo off the track whilst doing so. Although Lorenzo was clearly and most would say, understandably annoyed at the move, Marquez was clearly delighted with the move that led to his 2nd-place finish and lets face it – so were we!!
So not only did we have an all-Spanish front row for Sunday’s race, we also had an all-Spanish podium which therefore means we have an all-Spanish top three in the riders standings with:
- Marc Marquez – 61 points
- Dani Pedrosa – 58 points
- Jorge Lorenzo – 57 points
A huge well done again to Cal Crutchlow who is certainly showing his strength and ability after suffering a few offs in both practice and qualifying by starting in fourth place and finishing in a more than respectable fifth place behind the much-loved Rossi. This leaves Rossi and Crutchlow in fourth and fifth place on 43 points and 35 points respectively.
So we are off to Le Mans in a few weeks time and I for one could not be more excited! So bring on Round 4 in what is shaping up to be a thoroughly enjoyable and highly competitive year for Moto GP.
