A recent release from Kawasaki seems to indicate a leap into a futuristic world of motorcycles with gadgets and gizmos that even Batman would be proud of.
The new 1400 GTR is set to have infrared screening with the results relayed on to a helmet mounted display for the rider to see, and an additional night vision visor (though this is still sketchy).
The infrared sensors are mounted on to the wing mirrors and can detect the body heat of animals or people from up to 300 feet away – this is especially useful when you take into consideration that the average high beam cannot shine so far as 300 feet. Additionally, and equally impressive, is that the sensors work together to provide depth perception, allowing an accurate idea of how far away the object actually is. Clever!
Though even a hint of a price tag is not available yet, it can be argued that such an impressive piece of kit will be well worth the money if it helps us riders stay safer on our bike at night.
