We’ve already dished out some advice on Inspiration and planning for a motorbike adventure, now we have some advice on what to pack – accessories to help you on the road…
So you’re all ready and raring to go. You’ve made the decision. You’re treating yourself. You’re off on a motorbike adventure! Well maybe you aren’t that far, yet. But the idea’s rotating in your mind like your Kevlar Jeans in a post-ride wash and you’re starting to think, what next?
On a recent blog post I wrote about a few local adventurers who have traversed across the world on their two wheels, leaving the comfort of local countryside for the unknown of international roads. However, the post wasn’t merely focused on heading overseas to get your kicks, it offered general advice for anyone looking to embark on a motorcycle tour or trip – near or far. A few reading suggestions were offered; both motorcycle travel books and motorcycle planning books shared, and some practical tips too.
For many, pre-trip excitement begins with the planning! However, your mind might be so caught up in daydreams of the bigger picture; colourful images of the open road, bright blue skies and the thrill of freedom that those little niggles of what to pack are left in the dust of your imagination. We’d like to help with that. Here’s our opinion on a few accessories available on our website that you could add to your ‘what to pack’ list, for staying comfortable and safe on the road…
- MotoGP Tail Bag/Helmet holdall:
Wherever your riding destination, we forever recommend wearing a lid. And of course, should you stick to our advice (and for most country’s, that of the authority’s) you’ll often be left walking with your helmet, and there’s nothing more inconvenient than having it tucked awkwardly under your arm as you stop off in a new town eager for a gander. That’s where the helmet holdall comes in – completely lined to keep your lid safe from any scrapes and bumps, complete with a strap for easy carrying, an additional pocket for your gloves, and a ‘storm cover’ for those often unavoidable soggy days. Priced at only £44.99, we feel the protection and comfort is worth it, don’t you agree?
- Oxford bum bag:
An extremely useful product for both local and international jaunts, this waterproof and spacious bumbag is very convenient on a ride. Complete with complimentary ear plugs, a micro-fibre cleaning cloth and a helmet cleaning spray, each stored within their own pouch, and very useful. This frees space in the primary compartment for; cash, a passport (if required for crossing borders) maps, plasters, your phone, camera, gloves and the most important of all – an emergency choccie bar! It gives you the piece of mind that these ever important bits are close at hand and easy to reach should you need them. Priced at only £24.99 – it’s a bargain too.
- Oxford Boss Alarm Clock:
This isn’t an alarm clock in the regular use of the product term, although that too would be handy for a trip, this is a bike lock, with an alarm. When travelling to new areas you may be even more protective of your wheels than at home, feeling unsure of the new area and of course, needing it to continue on your journey. This lock is approved by Thatcham so it’s reliability is assured and it’s flexible and fit for many climates as it is water-proof, vibration-proof, frost-proof and heat-proof. It also comes with a small minder cable to ensure you remove it before riding off. This product’s priced at £79.99
- Scala Rider: Solo or Teamset Bluetooth systems:
Whether you’re riding alone or as a group, this handy piece of kit can really enhance your journey. The solo system has the ability to connect to your mobile phone, GPS or MP3 player, which is perfect for both entertaining and practical purposes. The teamset is slightly pricier, but fantastic if you’re in a group allowing you to make, receive and reject calls – even the pillion passenger on the back can be conferenced in. Priced at £119.99 for a solo, and £249.99 for the teamset – we think they sit nicely on any ‘what to pack’ list.
- Respro Foggy Anti-Fog Breath Guard:
The fifth and final product we’re recommending might be useful for any time you’re out on a ride, but will be particularly helpful for a long journey. There’s nothing worse than getting fogged up mid-ride and here Respro are offering a preventative. Available in blue, black or red this fog guard can be used on most helmets, including Shoei, Arai, Dainese, Shark, FM, AGV, Bell, Roof & HJC. They’re so effective even some BSB riders wear them!
Of course this list isn’t exhaustive, but hopefully it might get your mind ticking over what to pack on an adventure, and give you some ideas on how to enhance your journey. Happy travels!
