The answer to this question is, unanimously, yes.
It has been hot on the agenda for London Mayor Boris Johnson, whose promoting of the idea has created a wave of enthusiasm among city bikers. This culminated in Peugeot Scooters running a survey
among 1000 participants asking the question “Should bus lanes be opened up to scooters and motorcycles country wide?”.
The outcome? 95% said “YES”.
And why not? In a world where city congestion is a big issue, nevermind the carbon footprint, scooters are a cheap and accessible way to zip around the city. Add into the equation their exclusive use of bus lanes and I would hazard a guess that many stressed, congested car drivers would become free riding, fun lovin’ scoot riders without ever looking back.
First opened up to motorcyclists in Bristol in 1996, bus lanes have since been opened in 14 other major cities around the UK. Many other cities have yet to allow the same freedom to their city cyclists, but with the popularity of the idea among riders ever growing and congestion levels ever worsening, it is probably only a matter of time.
So how do you get on the road and how much will it cost? Well, as little as £10 a week can see you cruising down that bus lane on a Piaggio Zip Scooter.
Can you afford not to?
