What was the Silverstone MotoGP situation like for Taz Taylor?
After winning the wildcard for racing at the Silverstone MotoGP weekend in the Moto3 class Taz’s lucky MotoGP Silverstone break clashed with mother nature. This weekend the rain fell hard and challenged the Moto3 riders as they took to the track. The last Moto3 HEL Performance Motostar race for Taz resulted in a rainy write-off, determined, especially in such unique conditions, to not let this repeat itself, Taz took to the tracks.
Racing at the Silverstone MotoGP in the Moto3 class Taz was up against British rider Danny Kent and Czech rider Jakub Kornfeil, riding amongst them, an opportunity in itself, “Looking forward to getting out on track tomorrow with the top riders in the world”.
Any words on the racing?
The weekend began with three free practice races over two days. The first, Taz placed 33rd, climbing higher to 30th in the second, improving his time, nearly three seconds faster. Though faster still, for the third free practice Taz dropped back down to 34th.
Following Silverstone MotoGP, Moto3 practicing, Taz ended the qualifying race in a healthy 35th position. The weather affected every rider, Taz included, as his bike went under and he came off. Keen to ensure the track wouldn’t defeat him Taz picked himself back up again and rejoined the race to finish.
The prelude to the race was another practice, though Taz’s bike wasn’t holding up, with black oil and smoke holding him back, still recovering from last weekend’s write off. Once his dedicated team repaired the bike back to full riding health, he climbed up to the teens, finishing in 19th place – congratulations Taz!
Taz has a fighting spirit and gritty determination on two wheels, shown by his consistent podium positioning for his debut in the Moto3 HEL Performance Championship this year. He sits in 2nd on the standings, with a few days rest before he hops back on to round number nine at Oulton Park this weekend.
