Your Chance To Review The New Motorcycle Test

Motorcycle TestEarlier this year the new motorcycle practical test came into force, and after a bumpy start the proceedings have now smoothed over.

However, to say the new procedures are running like a well oiled machine might be a little generous. After all, there is speculation that the off-road module of the test (Module 1) is in fact too demanding with a particularly problematic ‘Swerve and Stop’ manoeuvre, and that the new multi-purpose test centres are now few and far between.

In answer to these issues, the Transport Committee has now planned an inquiry into the new testing arrangements to find out the current situation on 4 key points. They are:

  • Has the DSA interpreted the EU Second Driving Licence Directive correctly and applied it appropriately?

  • Are the off-road motorcycle tests safe and appropriate?

  • Is the number of motorcycle test centres adequate and are the locations satisfactory?

  • What is the impact of the recent changes in motorcyclist testing?
