Round six for no.6 Taz Taylor, of the British Motostar Championship, how did he do?
Taz set himself as a tough act to follow in round five at Knockhill on 3rd-5th July in the Motostar Championship. Knockhill witnessed him secure a double whammy win for the weekend, an impressive, well-deserved feat for Taz, was this winning streak going to keep streaking for round six?
Taz began in pole position for Saturday’s race at Brands Hatch, the second race of the season hosted by this Southern race track, ready to ride on his round five winning confidence. He revved off and kept the lead through the first lap, 1.3 seconds ahead of his racing rival Scott Deroue. He kept up the pace for the rest of the race and for the third round in a row, achieved a fastest lap record – well done Taz! Speeding his way around the track, kneeling into the corners, Taz rode his way to a win with a five second edge.
Sunday wasn’t so plain-racing, for Taz or the rest of the riders, as a red flag was flown and the race cut short at only twelve laps due to an accident involving another rider. Taz and Deroue were fighting it out for the win until this point, never more than 0.1 seconds apart. The end-result was taken from the last time they crossed the line and Taz missed out by an incey 0.04 seconds.
Taz was gracious in accepting second place and shared his thoughts, “The second race was so close there was nothing between us on every lap; we managed to break away from third placed man by 15 seconds. It was a good battle and there were places I knew I was a little stronger and there were some where Scott was stronger. It was a shame the red flag came out as I’m sure the last lap would have been fun but that’s racing.” The red-flag situation wasn’t ideal but second place was a fantastic achievement, and Taz remains at the top of the league table with 226 points, 16 ahead of Deroue. Excited to see where the season is headed? The next race is only two weekends away, beginning on Friday 31st July at Thruxton.
On a slightly separate note, in the last few posts we’ve mentioned that Taz was vying for a MotoGP wildcard race entry at Silverstone in August. A unique challenge for Taz, this opportunity will see him ride with some top-level racers from around the world, and it’s recently been announced, he bagged it! Taz has financial support from local and national sponsors but he’s still in need of a little more. If you’d like to help nudge him along with the funding for this rare racing chance please check out his GoFundMe page for a bit more info, thank you!
