A new experience for Pete
Back in March, whilst Winter still fed us dreary days, Pete, Two Wheel Centre’s founder, forewent the soggy for the temperate, dry, Girona, Spain when Suzuki invited him for his first ever manufacturer’s test ride. The Suzuki SV650, a naked street bike was a great match for the mountainous roads.

A fairly oldie in origins this bike was first released in 1999. Over the years Suzuki has swapped in new technologies, advanced their offering and for 2016, is releasing the most recent version in popular shades of White, Black and Blue. This is where Pete’s trip came in.
An important player in Suzuki’s line-up, Pete along with reps from the 60 other UK Suzuki dealers, took to the Spanish streets to test the SV650. To take the trial past singular testing, they asked them to trial it against the Yamaha MT07 and Kawasaki ER6N. Without bias, the SV650 came out top bike for Pete.
What made the Suzuki SV650 a winner?
Before the nitty, techy, gritty, Pete described it as a “fun machine to ride” and Motorcycle News suggested it’s “a doddle” to take for a spin. These opinions suggest an enjoyable ride, a positive, exciting start.
The bike is light at 197kg creating a nimble feel, allowing you to glide through the streets whilst remaining in control. This reduces stability issues at both high and lower speeds. The narrow tank, thinner than its predecessor, complements this and offers better handling so you can manoeurve with ease.

Pete commended the ABS braking, scoring it 5 out of Suzuki’s 5 on the evaluation sheet, a confident “excellent”. Focusing on the inside, the 645cc, 4-stroke, V2 engine is a high output piece of kit, Pete found it to be “strong, linear and positive.” The dual spark technology (two spark plugs per cylinder) makes for increased combustion efficiency and smoother power delivery. In happy addition, these all meet the Euro 4 exhaust emissions standard, an improvement on Euro 3 for the previous model, reducing the bike’s environmental impact.
The final touches of the bike suggest a slick set of wheels. The fuel gauge has an LCD instrument panel showing gears, fuel levels – all at your choice of brightness. For night-time riding you can engage the screen’s backlight for improved visibility.
