The Suzuki GSX-R1000R L7: The Best Ever?

The GSX-R1000R L7 – the new contender for King of the Sports Bikes

2016 GSXR 1000 Concept

We are now taking pre-orders for the incredible GSXR 1000 L7, which will be arriving in our showroom in early 2017. These bikes will be few and far between so pre-orders will be absolutely essential.

The 2017 GSX-R1000R L7 might just be the best GSX-R ever made. A bold claim – particularly when you pit it against the like of the K5 GSXR 1000, but of this we’re quite certain. Well, take a sneak peek at the new Gixxer and decide for yourself.

How does it measure up against the GSXR 1000 K5?

Good question, superbike fans. 11 years after the launch of the stonking K5, Suzuki have gone back to the spirit of innovation and road/track balance that made the 2005 GSX-R so fantastic. The Japanese manufacturers have decided to blaze a trail again, re-defining the class with the first VVT system seen on a superbike engine.

Handling was one of the K5’s strengths, and its new great-grandchild is expected to be just as nimble. The focus is on a lightweight, narrow, aerodynamic bike that will cut through the air to set blistering lap times. The fuel tank is low like the K5, drag and lift has been reduced… even the fairing mounting bolts are flat!

The K5 was truly competitive, with 175bhp and a muscular engine to gallop away from its rivals. The 2016 GSXR 1000R has upped the ante again, with an estimated 200bhp matching the competitors’ offerings. It’s also got more racing tech than you can wave a flag at, making it the most technically accomplished GSXR to date.

What MotoGP goodies can we expect on the 2016 GSXR 1000R?

The undoubtable benefit of Suzuki’s return to MotoGP in 2015 is that they had the chance to see what works – and what doesn’t. With fresh faces and new riders, Suzuki bagged themselves 21 top ten finishes and a highest placement of 6th – with Vinales crowned ‘Rookie of the Year’. This was, of course, followed by a stunning win in 2016 at Silverstone.

The new GSX-R borrows heavily from a season of racing experience and refinement, with technology from the track brought over into the world of road-going superbikes. Suzuki have pioneered a new way of ensuring optimum power at all engine speeds: it’s called the Broad Power System.

The Broad Power system uses Suzuki TFI (Top feed injectors), operating at a higher rpm, to satisfy the engine no matter how much you rev it. Top end power benefits, giving that extra edge on the track.

What’s really nifty, though, is the variable valve timing (VVT). This is the first time this race engine tech has been used on a superbike – exciting stuff! To cut a long story short, VVT optimizes intake cam timing at all engine speeds – leading to broader, stronger power at low, mid and high rpm.

The third element in Suzuki’s master plan is the SET-A (Suzuki Exhaust Tuning Alpha) system, which makes the exhaust work to increase top end power. Butterfly valves close at lower rpm and open at the top end, adding extra kick exactly when it’s needed.

There’s plenty more tech to talk about; including a quickshift system, launch control and 10 level traction control. Unfortunately, it’s more than we can fit in this blog! It’s safe to say that Suzuki have really pushed the boat out, so if you want to know more, check out the Suzuki GSXR 1000 Concept 2016 product page to see the full description of all the racing goodies.

What makes the 2016 GSX-R1000R stand out?

This is the biggest re-design the GSX-R has gone through since 2005 – almost everything is brand spanking new. The unwavering focus on performance means that this bike could be the one to take Suzuki to the top of the BSB and WSBK tables – it certainly looks like a strong contender.

Another boast of the 2016 GSX-R1000R is that it sports the very latest Showa suspension technology, developed for racing. Suzuki have used Showa BFF (Balance Free Forks) and BFRC (Balance Free Rear Cushion) Lite suspension, which use unique hydraulic circuits to overcome the weaknesses of other systems.

This track-proven suspension makes cornering a dream, glides over road imperfections and vastly improves damping. Bonus: It’s much lighter than the previous model. And no wires!

When can I get my hands on this new GSXR?

The 2017 GSX-R1000R will be available next year, but there’s no exact date yet. We can’t wait to get one of these in stock – but until then, please Contact our showroom if you have any questions, and keep checking back for a more specific date.

If you just can’t wait to own this bike, get your pre-order in before it’s too late – we expect limited numbers of this bike and they’ll most likely be going like hot potatoes. You could be one of the first to ride away on the best GSXR ever!
