Oulton Park held the previous race of the championship. This is where track rivals, Byrne and Brookes, battled one another for the top spot in all three races. Brookes took one win, whilst Byrne finished with two “… If you turn back to the last race at Oulton Park, to watch Shakey overtake me and make a gap to finish the race ahead was a bitter pill to swallow. I have had two weeks to stew on that and to come back with maybe more aggression.”
This aggression, motivation and opportunity to do more worked in Brookes’ riding favour as he paced through to first place at the Assen BSB. In race one, and two. A significant result at a significant time in the championship. “It’s not just the double that’s good, I’ve done that a few times now, but to do it now at the most crucial point and with all the crazy things that have happened, especially last year there was a lot chaos for me that didn’t go my way. This year too I’ve had plenty of situations thrown at me but together with myself and my team we have done the best we can and come out shiny the other end.” And shiny he did.
Another consistent placing of the Assen BSB weekend was Ellison. Five laps in his bike began vibrating, a distraction which only worsened throughout the first race. Thankfully for Ellison this was no match for his determination as he placed in second. In race two he spent some time leading the riders, first place was temporarily in sight, until Brookes burst through again. Ellison couldn’t claim it back and came second once more. This has cemented his third place position in the championship ahead of the final two races and he’s up for the fight, “we certainly won’t be giving up until the final lap of the last race at Brands Hatch.”
In other Assen BSB news…
An unexpected result of the Assen BSB weekend, Mossey placed on the podium for the second race, ahead of his more race-versed rivals. This win came after a crash in race one. Nearly taking first from Brookes in lap six, Mossey was really moving. Though he sacrificed this battle, and second place, to avoid crashing. His last (and first ever) podium finish, again third place, coincided with Brookes taking second place – coincidence? Either way, Mossey showed his playful excitement at the achievement (see photo).
Another Assen BSB crash came from Tommy Bridewell. Bridewell managed four laps in the first race before he was out. A gleeful time for Brookes with Bridewell as a fellow title fighter, currently in 5th overall.
Assen also hosted the Moto3 HEL Performance Motostar Championship
Taz Taylor also raced in the Assen HEL Performance Moto3 Championship this weekend, though with a contrast of results – first place and a crash. Read about his weekend here. Never heard of Taz? Check out his own website.
