It’s spring, and summer is just around the corner. It’s time to crawl out from under the duvet, pack away your heated gloves and look forward to a summer of adventure. Perhaps you’re even planning your motorbike adventure already, dreaming of whizzing along a deserted mountain road. Soon, you could be toasting marshmallows under the stars, parking your bike to look out over miles of stunning views and feeling like King (or Queen) of the world… but before you get carried away, you’re going to need a decent lid. The Shoei Hornet ADV is the new dual purpose helmet designed to take you over the hills and far away, whether on the motorway or off the beaten track.
The Next Generation of Dual Purpose Helmet
The Shoei Hornet ADV replaces the previous Hornet DS design, and Shoei have shown their commitment to innovation once again by improving upon what they’ve already achieved. This helmet has all the benefits of a full face helmet and performs beautifully off road.
New safety features
The helmet’s biggest new innovation is the E.Q.R.S. system: pull tabs located at the bottom of the helmet which enable the emergency services to remove the cheek pads quickly and safely in an accident. This major safety boost helps the paramedics get you out of your helmet and to the hospital much more quickly, and without the risk of damaging your neck or spine – which could make all the difference.
Improved visor technology
Shoei have also included the visor technology which is setting the standard on all their new helmets, with a CNS-2 Pinlock visor. As well as preventing a fogged-up visor, the new design is also much easier to change and remove than the Hornet DS. No more faffing about, and no need to dismantle the whole helmet just to get the visor off. What’s more, the Shoei Hornet ADV is glasses- and goggle-friendly, with a huge eye port, giving you excellent vision in all conditions.
The best of both worlds
Thanks to extensive testing in Shoei’s own wind tunnel, there are now 4 intake and 6 exhaust vents for a huge improvement in ventilation. Some of these vents have been built in to the peak, which has been re-designed to improve the aerodynamics and to avoid lifting at high speeds. The Shoei Hornet ADV is at home on the motorway as much as it is on a dirt track, and has been overhauled to focus more on the street side, with a redesign of the chin bar and mouthpiece. Shoei have upped their game to make the Hornet ADV a fully versatile dual purpose helmet.
Designed to Go The Distance
Long-lasting comfort
No-one wants to start hating a helmet halfway through a long ride. The Shoei Hornet ADV avoids this problem by being super comfortable, with plush 3D padding made of a quick-dry and moisture-wicking fabric to draw moisture (i.e. sweat) away from your face. The interior pads are all removable and washable, so you can take action when the liner starts to lose that new-helmet freshness.
Adding to its comfort credentials, the fit of the Hornet ADV is superb. The cheek pads can be swapped for a different size to suit you and there are an impressive four shell sizes available, meaning you can find just the right combination for your head shape and size.
Keeping the noise down
Ear pads fill the space between your ears and the liner, and block out a lot of that annoying wind and road noise that can distract you from enjoying your motorbike adventure. The chin curtain which comes with the helmet can also block out noise, not to mention dust and dirt that could fly up into your lid.
If you’re going adventure biking with a buddy, you’ll need to communicate; whether that’s about where to pitch your tent, or about how to navigate the herd of cows wandering across the road. Whatever you need to say, the Shoei Hornet ADV is ready for intercom installation, so you can chat away without compromising your safety.
Maximum Protection
Last, but certainly not least, the Hornet ADV offers the same great protection and lightweight construction that we’ve come to expect from Shoei. The tough-as-nails outer shell is made of the AIM+ advanced material that Shoei have specially developed and tested. This is a multi-composite and organic fibre matrix that is guaranteed to protect your head- which is, after all, what you buy the helmet for!
The Shoei Hornet ADV has a multiple-density EPS liner which is thickest where you need it most, saving weight in other areas. It crushes on impact to absorb shock, giving you that extra layer of protection. Perfect for adventure biking, when you need a helmet you can count on.
