Revving up for RS racing, Taz Taylor was determined to hold his first place position in the HEL Performance British Championship league at Snetterton this weekend… But did he manage it?
It’s still early days of the HEL Performance British Championship, but that doesn’t deem them any less important, as this weekend hosted round four at the recently developed Snetterton race circuit. It was over a month since Taz had won the last race at Oulton Park and all of the riders and him were bursting to get on the track. Friday saw Taz and his opponents warm up their wheels, fighting spirit and custom-designed leathers to hop on their bikes for the first qualifying of the weekend, in which Taz championed through to a terrific third place.
Following the qualifying, Saturday started off the races as Taz and Scott Deroue, a Dutch rider eager to work his way past Taz, were really pushing each other hard throughout the eight laps. Right up until lap number eight, when Taz came off his KTM, “I just ran a bit off line at Coram, hit some bumps and down I went. I was so gutted as it was probably one of the best races this year.” We were disappointed for Taz too. Although happily Taz came out unharmed and rode the fastest lap of the race – silver linings!
Though Taz was safe and unharmed his bike wasn’t looking so healthy. However, the RS Racing team were straight on the case and powered through the Saturday evening, working hard to restore the bike to it’s former glory. They did it, and Taz made it. The qualifying went smoothly and Taz finished on top. Then came the second and final race, Deroue was keen to fight it out for a second win but Taz wasn’t giving up his number one spot in the league without a gritty fight, and he proved it by achieving a second race first place. Congratulations Taz!
With this win Taz is still sitting at the top of the HEL Performance British Championship league with 131 hard-earned HEL Performance Motostar British Championship points, though after Deroue’s first race win he’s now sneaking up on Taz, with only three points difference between the two. Things are getting closer and tougher but all the more exciting!
If you’re keen for more action, there’s only two weeks until Taz will be returning to the track for round five of the HEL Performance British Championship at Knockhill on 3rd – 5th July.
On a separate note Taz is bidding, and really eager, to race in the British MotoGP at Silverstone this year, if you’re interested in supporting his bid please have a read of this facebook post for more info or get in touch with Shane, Taz’s Dad.
It was a big weekend all round as Giacomo Agostini, or ‘Ago,’ officially stamped his name across one of the Snetterton track corners, now tributed to him and the circuit with the name ‘Agostini.’ A motorsport hero – both on two wheels and four – Ago has ten TT victories, fourteen World titles and more than two hundred and fifty race wins attached to his name. This is fitting for the Snetterton track which plays host to both motorcycle and car racing.
Two Wheel Centre are proud sponsors of Mansfield Woodhouse local Taz in the HEL Performance British Championship, and his other riding and racing endeavours. If you’d like to offer some support or just to read a bit more about Taz and his racing journey so far, please give his website a gander.
Last but not least, here’s another shout out to Johnny Wills, a media accredited photographer, for supplying the awe-inspiring action shots shown in this post!
